Treehouse is a Doris Duke Foundation (DDF) space where nature and climate conversations thrive. Our vision for the Treehouse is to create a space that reflects the vital role that trees and forests play in our lives and in solving some of the world’s greatest challenges.
During Climate Week NYC 2024, DDF transformed its convening and event spaces into the Treehouse—a dedicated hub for inspiring conversations, collaboration, idea generation and action on nature-based climate solutions. Throughout Climate Week, the Treehouse hosted a diverse range of events produced by DDF and other mission-aligned organizations, offering a home for the forest-climate agenda. To explore the full range of climate and nature discussions at the Treehouse and across New York during Climate Week NYC 2024, visit the Forest Events Tracker.
Why Forests?
Natural climate solutions are essential for achieving the nation’s climate and conservation goals, and forests are central to achieving this ambition. Already offsetting about 12% of the U.S.’s annual emissions, research shows that forests’ climate contribution could be nearly doubled. They are the nation’s largest contributor to carbon sequestration and offer the greatest opportunity to increase carbon storage and reduce emissions. DDF believes that now is the time to launch a moonshot for forests in this country: a national effort to unlock the highest-potential natural climate solutions and shift tens of millions of acres into resilient and biodiverse forest ecosystems.
