Duke Farms, Shangri La Museum & Rough Point Museum

In her will, Doris Duke requested that her properties in New Jersey, Hawaii and Rhode Island be opened for public visitation and used for educational and mission-advancing programs.

The Doris Duke Foundation (DDF) funds these museums and centers, and operates Duke Farms, the foundation’s environmental center, and Shangri La, a Honolulu-based center for exploring the global cultures of Islamic art. Duke Farms and Shangri La are led by DDF's President & CEO, as well as the same board, and work closely with colleagues across the foundation. Rough Point, with support from DDF, is operated by the Newport Restoration Foundation.

Duke Farms

Duke Farms is a 2,700-acre environmental center in Hillsborough, N. J., that opened to the public in 2012 as a leader in environmental stewardship and sustainability, and as a free, inclusive and accessible place for helping people find their place in nature.

Rough Point

Rough Point is a historic museum in Newport, R.I., containing an extensive collection of European fine and decorative arts and offering a window into the time period during which Doris Duke lived within the former home. Guided tours, exhibitions and cultural events are available year-round at the museum, which opened to the public in 2000.
